Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Welcome to Sommlr. We are committed to protecting your privacy. Sommlr is designed as an offline-first, privacy-focused wine cellar tracking application. Your wine collection, notes, ratings, and preferences belong entirely to you, and we aim to handle your data with the highest level of confidentiality and security.

2. Data We Collect and How We Use It

We believe in data minimization. Here is a detailed breakdown of the data your device interacts with and how it is processed:

  • Cellar and Wine Collection Data: All your wine collection details, custom notes, dates, and tasting histories are stored locally on your device in a private SQLite database. We do not host or have access to this data on our servers.
  • Camera and Photo Library: Sommlr requests permission to access your device's camera and photo library. This is used strictly for capturing or selecting wine label images to attach to your cellar records. These image files are processed and saved locally on your device.
  • Google Account Sync (Backup & Restore): If you choose to enable Google Account Sync, Sommlr utilizes the Google Drive API to backup and restore your local database and wine photos. The app stores backups inside your Google Drive’s private AppData folder. This folder is hidden from other apps and is completely inaccessible to the Sommlr developers or any other third parties.

3. Third-Party Services and AI Integration

Sommlr integrates specific third-party APIs to deliver its core features. Your interaction with these services is governed by their respective policies:

  • Google Generative AI (Gemini API): When you scan a wine label, the application transmits the image to the Google Gemini API to extract details such as the wine name, vintage, grape varieties, region, and tasting profiles. According to Google's API policies, data sent via the Gemini API is processed securely and is not utilized to train Google's public generative models.
  • Google Sign-In & Google Drive APIs: Used solely to authenticate your identity and write backup files to your own secure cloud storage on Google Drive. We do not collect or monitor your login credentials or file history.

4. Data Retention and Deletion

Because your data is hosted either locally on your device or in your personal Google Drive account, you retain total control over its retention and deletion:

  • To delete all local data, simply uninstall the app or clear the app's cache and data through your device settings.
  • To delete cloud backups, you can disconnect Sommlr and remove its hidden data directly through your Google Account's Google Drive Third-Party Apps settings.

5. Children's Privacy

Our services are not intended for individuals under the legal drinking age in their respective jurisdictions (e.g., 21 years of age in the United States). We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under these age limits.
